Football Beanie Free Crochet Pattern

Below is the pattern I used to make this beanie:

(Inspiration from a pattern found on Allicrafts.blogspot.com.)

Yarn: I Love This Yarn! Coffee (yarn color A) and Ivory (yarn color B, less than one skein of each)
Hook: I
Gauge: Not important

Special Stitch(es):
Single Crochet Decreasing (scdec): Insert hook in indicated stitch, pull up a loop yarn over, draw through all loops on hook. (Video of the single crochet decrease in action)

Starting with color A (Coffee)…
Round 1: Ch 5, sl st in 1st ch (You could also use a magic ring); ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc 9 times in ring, sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3, *2 dc in next dc, dc in dc, repeat from * around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 3, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 5: Ch 3, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, repeat from * around. Sl st in top of ch 3.

Switch to color B (Ivory) for the next two rounds…
Round 6: Ch1, sc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 1.
Round 7: Ch1, sc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch1.

Switch to color A (Coffee)…
Round 8: Ch 3, *2 dc in next sc, dc in next 4 sc, repeat from * around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 9: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 10: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 11: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 12: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 13: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.

Switch to color B (Ivory) for two rounds…
Round 14: Ch1, sc in each dc around. Sl st in top of ch 1.
Round 15: Ch1, sc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch1.

Switch to color A (Coffee)…
**Round 16: Ch 3, dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch 3.
Round 17: Ch1, sc in next dc, scdec in next two dc, sc around. Sl st in top of ch 1.
Round 18: Ch1, sc in next dc, scdec in next two dc. sc around. Sl st in top of ch 1. Fasten off.

With color B (Ivory) fashion “laces” for your football beanie, securing them on the inside of the hat.

**Note: I made this hat for my 10 year old son. If making this for a younger child, you can omit this round for a smaller, less deep hat. Enjoy!
